Welcome to Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education I:

This course studies early childhood development and education. The course content includes infant, toddler and pre-school stages of development, safety, health, meal planning, story-telling, art activities, and literacy. Students will develop skills to meet the needs and abilities of young children; birth to four years of age. Students will also assist in the sensory communication and life skills classes. Observations and experiences are completed in the Eagle Crest, an FUSD licensed childcare center, the Life Skills classroom, and the Sensory Communication classroom. (Students must complete a seven-hour First Aid and CPR/AED training that will be offered in class. Once certification is successfully completed, students will begin their observations.) *Fee required

 

Early Childhood Education II

(Prerequisite: Child Development I):

This course is the continued study of early childhood development and education. Students must have earned their First Aid and CPR certifications to receive their assignment in the Eagles Crest Daycare Center, the Life skills classroom, and the Sensory Communication classroom. The course content includes preschool and early elementary stages of development, safety, health, meal planning, storytelling, art and music activities as well as an introduction to teaching fundamental math and literacy skills. Observations and hands on experiences will be completed in the Eagles Crest Daycare, the Life skills classroom and the Sensory Communication classroom. 29 (Students will be registered in AZ Early Childhood Workforce Registry and they will begin the process of earning their Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) as well as a Para Pro (Paraprofessional Praxis) Certification *Fee required.

 

Early Childhood Education III -Child Care Lab

(Prerequisites: Child Development I and II):

This instructional program will focus on the preparing students for entry level employment, further training and/or post-secondary education in the following occupations: preschool teacher, daycare worker, para professional, instructional assistant, after-school program assistant, early childhood educator. This is a hands-on opportunity to be an intern in a licensed daycare or an educational facility. The course content includes child guidance, parenting family relationships and applicable legal and administrative requirements for working with young children. Students in this course will be required to meet, at least, once per month with the instructor to review lessons and student progress in their internship placement. Requirements Include  Current CPR and First Aid certification  TB Test  Flu Shot (Students will be registered in the AZ Early Childhood Workforce Registry and students will continue to work on obtaining their Child Development Association Credential (CDA) as well as their Para Pro (Professional Praxis) Certification. *Fee required.
